Dave the Diver is heading into a very different ocean.
Mintrocket has announced a new crossover between Dave the Diver and Subnautica 2, bringing the two underwater worlds together in what will also serve as the final DLC for Dave the Diver.
The collaboration was revealed during the latest Triple-i Showcase and is currently scheduled to launch in early 2027.
Despite sharing underwater exploration as a core idea, the two games approach the ocean in very different ways. Dave the Diver mixes diving, restaurant management and lighthearted adventure, while Subnautica 2 leans much more heavily into survival and mysterious deep-sea exploration.
That contrast could be exactly what makes the crossover work.
Dave the Diver x Subnautica 2 DLC Will Be Free
The upcoming crossover expansion will be released as a free DLC.
Mintrocket developed the project alongside Unknown Worlds, the studio behind Subnautica 2.
The expansion will bring Proteus, the ocean moon featured in Subnautica 2, into the world of Dave the Diver.
In the new storyline, Dave and Bancho have already encountered the sea creatures and recipes available in their own dimension. Their next step is to travel somewhere completely new in search of unfamiliar species, discoveries and, naturally, new ingredients.
That journey takes them into a dimension inspired by Subnautica 2.
Dave Will Encounter a Leviathan
The crossover is not limited to familiar scenery.
Dave will also come face to face with one of the most recognizable types of creatures associated with the Subnautica universe: a Leviathan.
The DLC will also introduce new characters and discoveries as Dave and Bancho explore the unfamiliar environment and attempt to eventually return home.
For longtime players, the concept effectively gives Dave the Diver a new ocean to explore after exhausting the wildlife and culinary possibilities of his own world.
Why the Two Games Fit Together
Mintrocket studio director Jaeho Hwang said the collaboration gave the team an opportunity to introduce a different style of underwater exploration into Dave the Diver.
Although both games take place beneath the surface, Subnautica’s approach to exploring the ocean is very different from Dave the Diver’s.
That difference allowed the developers to add something new without simply repeating what players have already experienced in previous DLC.
Subnautica 2 creative director Anthony Gallegos also described the project as a celebration of both games, saying the teams are clearly fans of each other’s work.
The result is intended to feel like a crossover built by two studios that genuinely understand and enjoy the other game’s world.

This Will Be Dave the Diver’s Final DLC
The Subnautica 2 collaboration is especially notable because it is planned as the final DLC for Dave the Diver.
Mintrocket has already used the game as a home for several unexpected collaborations.
Previous crossover content has involved franchises and games such as:
- Balatro
- Yakuza
- Godzilla
- Guilty Gear
Compared with some of those collaborations, Subnautica 2 is a particularly natural fit because both games revolve around exploring underwater environments and discovering marine life.
At the same time, their very different tones give the crossover room to feel fresh rather than predictable.
Subnautica 2 Has Already Been a Major Success
The crossover arrives while Subnautica 2 is already enjoying significant commercial success.
After launching in early access, the game sold more than five million copies in less than a month.
The strong performance has encouraged publisher Krafton to treat Subnautica as a larger long-term franchise.
The game’s launch also followed a period of controversy involving Krafton and members of the studio’s founding team, but the commercial momentum around Subnautica 2 has remained strong.
Dave the Diver Has Become a Crossover-Friendly Game
Dave the Diver has gradually built a reputation for collaborations that go far beyond its original setting.
Its unusual structure makes that relatively easy.
Because the game combines exploration, fishing, restaurant management and story-driven missions, crossover content can introduce new creatures, characters, environments or recipes without completely changing the core experience.
The Subnautica 2 DLC may be one of the most logical collaborations yet because it expands the game’s most important activity: exploring the ocean.
When Will the Dave the Diver x Subnautica 2 DLC Release?
The crossover is currently planned for early 2027.
An exact release date has not yet been announced.
The DLC is expected to be free, and its Steam page is already available for players who want to add it to their wishlist.

Final Thoughts
A Dave the Diver and Subnautica 2 crossover feels unusually natural despite the dramatic difference in tone between the two games.
One is playful, colorful and heavily focused on characters and food, while the other emphasizes survival, mystery and the dangers of an unfamiliar ocean.
Combining those two approaches gives Mintrocket a chance to end Dave the Diver’s DLC run with something that feels both familiar and different.
With a trip to Proteus, new creatures to discover and a Leviathan waiting somewhere below the surface, the free expansion could be one of Dave the Diver’s most memorable collaborations yet.
The Dave the Diver x Subnautica 2 crossover DLC is scheduled to arrive in early 2027.
