How to Install OBB Files on Android [Complete Guide]

Some Android games require additional OBB files alongside the APK. Installing them is simple, but the OBB files must be placed inside the correct package folder.

OBB Files Installation Guide

  1. Download the required OBB file or files.
  2. Download the APK or MOD APK.
  3. Open a file manager and move the OBB files to Android/obb/<package-name>/.
  4. Install the downloaded APK.
  5. Launch the game.

OBB data may be provided directly as .obb files or inside a .zip archive. If you downloaded a ZIP file, extract it first before moving the OBB files.

Example

Suppose a game uses this package name:

com.example.herogame

and includes these two OBB files:

main.747.com.example.herogame.obb
patch.747.com.example.herogame.obb

Both files should be placed inside:

Android/obb/com.example.herogame/

The final structure should look like this:

Android/
└── obb/
    └── com.example.herogame/
        ├── main.747.com.example.herogame.obb
        └── patch.747.com.example.herogame.obb

If the com.example.herogame folder does not already exist, simply create it manually inside Android/obb/.

Pro Tip

You can also install the APK first and launch the game once. Some games will automatically create their package folder inside Android/obb/. Close the game and move the OBB files into that folder.

The first launch may crash, freeze, or display an error because the required OBB data is still missing. After copying the files to the correct folder, launch the game again.

Updating OBB Files

When updating an APK or MOD APK, check whether the new version also requires updated OBB files. The APK and OBB should be compatible with the same game version.

If replacement OBB files are provided, you can remove the old OBB files and copy the new ones into the same package folder.

Important

On newer Android versions, access to Android/obb/ may be restricted. If your file manager cannot copy files into this folder, try your device’s built-in file manager or transfer the files from a computer.

Always double-check the package name and folder location. An OBB file placed in the wrong directory will usually not be detected by the game.
